ontario/salmon newby needs some advice

have been fishing erie for 20 years. Dad wants to catch a salmon so we are going to olcott labor day weekend. have never fished Ontario or for salmon and was wondering if I could get some help on what to expect and also what channel everyone runs on over there. I have riggers/big boards/dipsys......just need to hear what I should use on them, starting places....etc...etc...
