If you want to control the deer population, you shoot does.   You kill one doe, you remove 2-3 fawns from the population.    You could kill every male but one in a given area, and he

will be happy to breed every doe around.    

 

You can't control a population by killing bucks.    Pretty sure this move is designed to control the population, not manage for more antlered deer in the future.

Do the youth hunters get to shoot a buck during their special season?.... Doesn't that weekend fall in those first 15 days?

They did shorten the gun season, they took away the entire muzzle loader season from us.
