new guy question about site time stamp

Just curios: why is it that when I post at 7:40 pm my post indicates that I posted at 12:40 am?

Go to edit profile and set your time zone to (GMT -5:00 hours) Eastern Time ( US & Canada ) & check mark:  Automatically detect when my timezone is in DST 

 

That should do it for you.
