how to know lien against boat

so i am looking at a real nice starcraft boat tomorrow, it is an older boat so i doubt there is anything owing on it but i like to protect myself. how do you check if there are any liens/outstanding balances on a boat??? for a car there is a used buyers pack but is there anything like that for boats? i live in ontario if that makes any differences

The lien will be listed on the Title if there is one.....you will need the lien release from the bank.

I know on my vehicles the lien is on the title and you get a letter releasing the lien, but if you want a title that says no lien you have to pay for it. Dealer told me title and letter are good for sale. If it was me and someone had a letter releasing the lien I would call to make sure.

The dmv should be able to tell you with a vin search. It might cost $5 but it will give you a piece of mind.
