Loc why no lake trout?

Fishing outta rochester no salmon to be found but did catch a big laker 27 lbs. Trophy fish why did they take the lake trout out?

Trout hunter - I'm pretty sure the genetics of the fish in the lake today came from the larger fish you mention that lived there generations ago...genetics are there - probably more a product of the environment.

over the next five years, the average sized laker will start to become much bigger than the average sized king...

 

heck, on my boat, it was like that this year.....

 

i see adding lake trout back to the loc because soon the lakers will become much bigger on average than the kings.....

Without getting into a biology/genetics lesson,  Eggs from Alaskan fish won't work.  There's a reason the Tule Strain of Chinooks  from the Columbia River Basin were selected for the Great Lakes.

 When the gobies first exploded my buddy and I used to go out on Sodus and Port bay's pier and jig plain reg hooks with a small sinker below and catch hundreds of them. Contest turned into who can bounce them highest off the concrete. The seagulls loved us!

I believe the "Alaskan strain" of kings run in the summer. A summer run of kings in Lake Ontario would be a disaster and could never happen.

When they selected stocking prospects the original biologists were careful to choose a "fall running" strain.

Makes sense wonder what would happen if u mixed a fall running salmon with a summer running salmon.

I would love to see a fresh strain introduced.... Maybe we would get back to the days of 40plus pounders....  There sure is the bait out there to sustain bigger predators.

I would think that size of the mature fish has more to do with the age (3 YO vs 4 YO or even 5 YO) than genetics.
