I run rabbits and hairs with a basset hound mix best hunting dog I ever seen a little stubborn tho.

I ran Basset Bluetick  crosses year ago, love the Basset nose.

How do you guys cook hares?  I tried one once and fed the rest to my dog.  Cottontails are delicious.

When I had my dogs and hunted hare I would bone out the meat and soak it in milk overnight before cooking.  I hunted a lot up in Malone and Massena in the cedar swamps and the hare were definitely a little stronger tasting than the ones you'd get out of the alders or spruce around the tug hill and ADKS but not bad eating.  Tons of fun to hunt especially if you hit it right in mid March at the end of the season when the snow melted and they stood out like a sore thumb.

They are best marinated in something or breaded and deep fried.. I'm sure it is a lot of fun shooting white rabbits on bare ground, but i prefer to hunt them when snow is one , which makes it alittle more challenging ..

love bunny hunting, have 3dogs,but blue tick basset would be cool

Bassets are awesome from my experience as they have an amazing sense of smell and unlike Beagles they only bark and howl when there hot on a rabbit.

Im to the point where id rather run bunnies than hunt deer anymore haha. Hares seem a little frustrating to me but I've only tried it a couple of times. It seems to me that bunny populations have been up pretty high the past couple of years? Anyone else feel the same way?

I'd rather hunt hare then deer. I do hunt cottontails a few times a winter but seems there numbers are down in my area.. Maybe lack of cover , or due to predators is there reason
