It's  time of year again to change the engine oil in the mercruiser. I am thinking of using one of those collapsible 5 gallon plastic coleman water bags. I think that they may fit nicely under the engine and can carry a gallon of waste oil without any problems.

Did anybody ever try this idea? If so ,how did it work out?

Thank you,Cornelis.

Tractor supply sells a vacuum oil pump. I have had mine five years. Still works like new today. Suck the oil right out of the dip stick tube..

Hello nick.

Thanks for that idea.

Does this pump have a real thin hose that goes all the way down or do I have to unscrew the top of the dipstick housing?

ive never owned an i/o,but have worked at a few marinas over the years and like what was said above,an oil"sucker"is the way to go.yes, they have a thin plastic vacum line that goes down the dipstick tube.you should run the motor for a bit to get the oil warm, the oil comes out alot easier.

Depending on make, there house inserts, or goes over the tube. It's super easy, mess free. They offer electric ones as well. PS. Don't get oil hot, just warm, hot oil will collapse the hose.

Thank you guys.

That vacuum pump sounds a lot better than crawling on my belly with a plastic bag in my hand and hoping not to spill oil.

On top of that, I will no longer have to turn my lawn mower upside down to change the oil.

I went to Tractor Supply and got one! No more dirty hands and crawling around the doghouse.

Thanks again!
