Do you need to wear life jackets if you are in a rowboat that is not motorized this time of year?  I know these boats are not motor vechicles when their only means of propulsion on board is a paddle.

Just for the record I always wear a life jacket.  I am just curious about the law.

New York state law requires that all boaters on recreational watercraft less than 21 feet in length – including motorboats, canoes, kayaks, rowboats and sailboats – must wear a personal flotation device (PFD) from November 1 to May 1 on New York waters. - See more at: http://nysparks.com/newsroom/press-releases/release.aspx?r=760#sthash.EfGlM7y6.dpuf

Correct. I wear one regardless, during that time period, untill the water reaches 65* on the surface. I bought 1 of those skinny ones sometimes I don't realize I have it on till I get hot then I remember I have it on. They are quite expensive, but really my kids got it for me on Father's Day, that should tell ya something, out there is someone that cares about you!! Wear it.
