I just ordered a couple of Okuma Convector 30DS high speed (6.2 to 1) line counters with upgraded Dragmaster drags. Are these the same drags that Tuna Tom uses to upgrade the factory drags from Daiwa, Shimano, Okuma etc...? These updated drags cost an extra 22 dollars a reel. I'm wondering if they are worth the extra cost. These will be used with wire on my dipsy diver rods in 2016.

I think you'll love them (the drags) :)

Do you have a link to where the best place to buy them? Are they difficult to install?

John if you don't need too many done it is very reasonable to have Tuna Tom do them. He carries the Dragmaster carbon fiber drags. They are great to work with and the turn around time is excellent too.

  I omitted mentioning that I sent one of my reels to Tuna Tom completely disassembled

Anyone know a ballpark on how much he charges to upgrade a drag?  I'm about to order the parts and do it myself but if the price is right I will just ship them off.

$22.00 bucks extra per reel is a reasonable price for the drag upgrade.

Probably about what you would pay for the drag washers and it's already done for you

Yeah I agree. Even if it was more than that I would have done it anyway. I really like the Convector series, but those factory drags aren't as smooth as I would like them to be.

Convectors are a good mid grade reel.

I run some cores and coppers on them.

I've upgraded the drags on most of them.

Got a couple of 6.2 : 1 high speeds but I haven't run them yet.

Good luck
