Looks a lot like a Freshwater Sculpin/Stonecat to me Mike....hard to see some of the features (e.g. spot on dorsal, scalloped pelvic fin etc.) with that mottled background. After several looks at it  you may be right  though it would have been nice to have had a contrasting background as those colors blend right in with the fish.

I've seen plenty of gobies in 6"-6' of water.  Easiest way to tell the difference is the belly fins (pelvic fins)- if there are two separate, it's a sculpin, if it's one fused together sort of in a cup shape it's a goby.  Got any belly pics?

No, they were fused together I think.

Looks like a goby to me.i get a lot of them off the dock in spring when getting sawbells

Gobie.  The belly fin looks to be one solid fin not two separate.

  Cayuga is loaded with Gobies. It will be interesting to see what effect they have on fishing.

Lakers have always loved FreshwaterSculpin so I imagine they would chow down on something that looks that close.

Yes they do. I'm betting browns and bass will eat them too, since either of them will eat anything that doesn't eat them first.

I have heard they are a pita when they keep hitting perch minnows.
