I recently replaced my 2003 90hp carbureted 2stroke with a rebuilt 2003 115hp 4stroke. Both are Mercury. The boat has never had a beeper( this is why I needed a new motor) I purchased a two wire beeper, anyone know which two wires from the motor to hook up? Can't find it in my service book or online. Thanks in advance.

If you got the controls along with the motor there might be a beeper in the control assy. I'm surprised you didn't have a beeper with the original motor.  I have a 1990 Merc. 75 hp and it has a beeper in the control assy. It beeps when the level is low in the oil injection oil reservoir.  The oil reservoir is inside the motor housing and has a sensor at the bottom. I think it will also beep if the motor overheats. For a four stroke, I think there should be an alarm for low oil pressure and for overheat.

Yes, the four stroke alerts for low oil pressure and high temp. It also kills spark to 2 cylinders and reduces Rpms to 2000. If there's a beeper on the boat I can't find it and I have never heard a beep in the ten years I've had it. I haven't checked in the control Assy. I will check. Thanks a million, I used the same controls for the new motor. Edited by steelydan

No beeper in the control box. I should be getting a momentary beeb with the key on also. I can't even find any cut wires where a beeper was removed.

It's a 2003 Kenner 18V if anyone is familiar. I ran out of two stroke oil at 5000rpm with my last motor. A beeper would have been nice then, still my ignorance.

I would think the beeper would be standard equipment and not an option. It seems really strange if you never had it. Mine is inside the housing and connected with bullet connectors. You might want to ask a Merc. repair shop or check out the wiring and mechanical diagrams. An online Mercury forum might be helpful too.

I noticed that in the Climer service manual I have for mine, it shows variations in wiring diagrams and there was one that didn't have a beeper in it (I don't know why) but it didn't have power tilt either.

So you might want to make sure your old controls will work properly with the 4 stroke. Even if they look the same there could be important differences. Especially because one is a 2 stroke and one is 4 stroke.

Controls work fine, motor runs and shifts as it should. It was all mounted and done by the rebuilder. He's the one who told me about my alarm not working. Little did we know how hard it is to locate. He thought it was a bad buzzer, we never tried to locate it. I told him I would take care of it!!! Ha ha jokes on me. LOL
