There are a number of options and some of it depends on the size of your reel. I use 300 yds of 40-50 lb Power Pro braid on mine. If you have a smaller reel perhaps 300 yds of 30 lb braid would suffice. If you are not fishing Lake O (where kings abound hopefully :) ) you may be able to get by with 150 yds of 30 lb if you intend to run coppers on lower capacity reels. I use separate setups for Lake O and the Finger Lakes for example.  You also can run shorter copper lengths and add weight to get them down further if you decide you need the extra backing. The reason the backing length becomes critical is especially when you run them off boards because you have the distance to the board as well as the potential length for fighting a fish and a lot of folks worry about getting spooled b y a large king because of not enough backing. Avoid using a clinch knot to tie them together as it can slip with braid. I use a small SPRO #8 power swivel for the connection and also for the connection to the fluorocarbon leader. but there are other ways as well.

Blood Run Tackle offers braid that was designed to be used as backer for copper. Small diameter 65# test. It is metered by color and marked additionally every 50'. It's available in two styles- hivis and camo.
