Hi everyone, this really seems like a great forum!

We are coming out to fish near Irondequoit Bay in a few weeks; sometime in early May. We normally go to Lake Chautauqua or Oneida, but want to try something new. We aren't picky about what kind of fish we catch, but we were hoping for some good tips about how to fish for smallmouth out there.

Does anyone have any tips, or spots for us to try out? We will only be fishing for 2 days so we don't have much time to explore so we need a head start! Thanks!

Don't know much about the smallmouth anymore. It used to be hot just off of Hedges point, four mile creek, years ago but I heard the Zebra Mussels and Gobies ended that. There is good Pike fishing in the bay that time of year, always great Sheephead fishing in the bay also. There will be plenty of Brown Trout action between the bay and Hedges on the lake.

Drifting for smallies isn't nearly as productive as it used to be along that stretch that jlogger mentions. Trolling may be your best option. Try some diving plugs like wiggle warts or rapalas. Covers a lot more water. If you pick one or two up you can stop and cast. You may even pick up a brown. Good luck

Thanks for your input! Every little bit helps. I'm sure you guys know what its like to fish in an unfamiliar area. Hopefully all goes well! Thanks again
