Use 10 gauge copper wire for your VHF to get optimal performance. You need to draw over 2 and a half AMPS to transmit full power and 12 Volts can't push it with a lighter gauge wire. Wire your radio direct to the battery with the fuse next to the battery.

GB,

I installed 2 fuse blocks on the boat and run all the accessories on them. I have one for the front and one for the back for my riggers. I have the Depth Raider and the VHF along with my gps and FF on the front board, and no problems. If you are going to be up this weekend let me know and if I have a some spare time I will show you. Good Luck.
