Downrigger cable length

Any idea on how long of a cable I need for a downrigger I have one with 150ft and another with 100ft. I fish salmon and lake trout but very new to this. Was thinking 200 or 500 ft but I'm not sure.

I would think 200 ft minimum.  I have one with 200 ft and the other with 300 ft.  The deepest I usually fish is about 120 ft down, but I've sent stuff down to 175 before with success.  It's nice to have it when you need it.

I would go with 200' as a minimum if your due to replace. 300 would probably be better.

Mine came stock with 150' but I re-spooled them almost right away with 400'. Most of the time I'm only down 65-150, however there have been days during the summer I've had to venture out deep to find the Kings and have had to send the weights deep. The cost difference from a 150' to a 400' was minimal when I did the swap-out. This is one situation where more can be better.
