I've been up there to see the mount of that fish and the #2 fish. They are ridiculously impressive.  We get excited to catch one that is 30+ and that thing is over 3X as big. Beautiful.  My wife caught a 60+# king out of the Kenai and they are an impressive animal for sure.

All great fish, but aren't they the strain that stays in the ocean 7 years before they return to the stream to spawn?

Yes 5 years in the ocean, but unlike our Tule strain of kings here in the great lakes, which smolt ou the first spring, I believe the Kenai River Kings smolt out and head to the ocean at 2 1/2 years, so really you are both right.
