Does anyone have a Cutlass bearing puller that I could rent or borrow? The type that doesn't require the shafts to be pulled, thanks

I did my cutlass bearing last year also. I couldn't get my hands on the puller your talking about so I just removed the strut from the hull , pressed the old bearing out and new one in. Much easier then removing the shaft IMO. If you can get the puller great if not this is the way I would go.

I don't think it will be an easy task pulling the strut, if I can't find one to rent I'll have to just order the puller I guess

The struts are actually semi easy to pull. Just need a helping hand to run the wrench on the other side. Also, good time to ensure sealed properly and no moisture in surrounding area.

Please excuse my dumb ass, but what is a cutlass bearing, thanks for any insight on this matter?

The cutlass bearing is a rubber bearing installed in the strut where the drive shaft is stabilized. The bearing is stationary and water acts as lubrication for the shaft. These wear out in due time. Can wear faster due to incorrect drive shaft angle, prop failure, bent shafts...

That tool was easily worth the money, just removed and installed new bearing on about an hour and a half by myself!
