New bags

Tried out my 2 new big papa 36" bags yesterday. Ran them up against my hull at midship. With the wind I got from 3.4 to 2.3 . Against the wind .09- 1.8. Any adjustments I can make for going with the wind? All help appreciated!

SOG= Speed over ground or the speed on your GPS.

 

STW= Speed through water or the speed indicated by your speedometer and or your down probe. Both are different speeds. 

 

All three are very different speeds. The most important speed is the one at the ball given by your down probe. When discussing speeds you should always indicate the source so someone can help you. I have been travelling 3.7mph at the surface, 2.7mph at the ball and 1.5 mph over ground due to wind and currents.

Would like to get my speed slower when trolling with the wind. Want to use my big motor for trolling at night for walleye

What size is your main engine? With (2) 36" bags on a 20 foot boat you should be able to get down to 1.2 or so. You can also adjust the pitch of your prop to help slow down as well

I would look at your prop if the bags are working enough for you. My father has a 19.5' with a 3.0 liter and we had to change the pitch of the prop to achieve the speeds he wanted

if you have trim tabs lower them this will slow you down

you could also trim up your motor to slow you down

That should be plenty of bag. I had 2 28" Amish outfitter beefy bags on my 24' Thompson with 230 hp 5.0L I/O and both of those those deployed would just about drag me to a dead stop at idle.
