I go to noaa and weather underground to check conditions. The I read where everybody had a great day and conditions are just the opposite of what the forecast said. Should I just go to the lake and see for myself? Tired of reading forecasts and missing out on great fishing

Olcott has a webcam that I use to view the lake. I think Oswego has one as well. Ill also check the olcott pier weather station run by NOAA. Gives wind, direction and temp.

The only things that determine if I fish is wave height and wind speed. I've had great days on otherwise "poor" conditions and visa Versa. I get so few days to fish, so if I can go I go!!

I have found ,after 40 years of fishing Lake O ,that weather , wind and wave height predictions are sketchy at best . What you see is what you get . I have seen NOAA forecasts of 1-3 wave height ,only to get to the lake and find easy 3-5 's . and on the other hand I have seen really scary forecasts and the lake is nearly flat . Unless the wind is blowing hard when I get up ,I head to the dock . If it's bad , I head for the diner and wait it out or head back home .

Fishing out of Mexico Bay for many years I've learned if there is any sustained west wind around 15 it's iffy, over that probably not going to get out.

The weather liars on TV just try to scare you so you continue to tune in for more scaring and panic. If you see white caps it is not good to go.
