Was in 300 off Sandy today trolling on a 330 when a voice on the radio yelled "change your latitude " "change your latitude " I looked behind me to starboard stern to see a sailboat coming fast on course to cross my bow. I said on the radio " I will cut in and cross your stern to which the vessel Villa replied "change your latitude ". I might have called him an A hole.

Pretty big lake out there, and the overtaking vessel has not the right of way.

Back in the day a well thrown quarter stick would have been appropriate. Man I miss those days.

I believe a boat under sail has the right ,non power boat.

Doesn't, look it up. He even said " must not know what latitude is". In 3 to 4's with 6 out your turns are limited. He had to have seen me for a mile on his way. I was on a tight 330.

Wasn't another boat in sight.

1/4 wile further and he tacked 180. Was no need for it. If he turned 30 degrees west 20 minutes before there wouldn't have been an issue.

It was really no big deal, just selfish and unnecessary.

I heard that at the dock. He can stick his latitude where the sun don't shine. I'm so sick of those dicks. One year we had choice words for a very old guy in a blue sail boat and he said "I gotta get to my bouy"! We still laugh about that today.

Ha ha I was wondering if anyone did.

Fishings good. 250 to 300 down 60 to 110. Dipsy a at 300 and 250. Fleas not a big issue.

Saw a log coming back around 200 that could have made for a really bad day. Keep your eyes open.

I got into it with a guy last season. His brother came up to the marina and apologized for his brothers actions since he did not know the rules of the road.

Funny thing is he knew enough to call me on 72. If he knew that much maybe he should have guessed the rest.

Rules of the road... most have no idea. And the ignorance is worse if you have a sail for some reason.

Never know what's floating out there. Found a John boat in 600 some years back. Teeny little piece of stern was the only part above water.

He was worse than an Internet tough guy on the radio. It was obnoxious but pretty funny.

Two weeks ago, I witnessed a kayak almost get run over by a sailboat leaving the byc channel. Scared the hell out of the kayaker. Sailboat acted like somehow it was her fault.

The "rules of the road " state : If a sailboat is overtaking a recreational power boat , the power boat is the stand on vessel and the sailboat is the give way boat . You were in the right to maintain your course , but the rules also state that all actions must be taken to avoid a collision . As stated , some people on the water have NO clue .

"change your latitude"? What kind of a pea-brained moron puts a call out on channel 72 with as nondescript a statement as that? So far as I know, there's two different directions that would satisfy his requirements. How about a polite, "we're coming up on you fast and we'd like to pass to your North" or something like that? It's amazing just how much crap I'm willing to put up with if folk are just civil about it.

We don't even have the radio on these days, so he'd have been calling out to air. Hopefully he was wise enough to realize that cutting you off by 20 feet to your bow is better that cutting 100 feet to your stern...

Exactly what I was thinking. How the hell would any body know what his intentional course would be. Or how he would correct it. Jee...let's see...if I turn right, he turns right, if I turn left, he turns left...what a douche!..

I would add to the Grey poupon question.

Hey captain genius, how bout you change your longitude...like to 28.5 by 50.5 something like that...don't forget your passport.

I would have told him to buckle up because I'm not moving

and that is exactly what you should do as the stand on vessel maintain your course

Not to pile on, but I'm going to.  Why do they have set up their race course with a buoy directly in front of the creek?  That's just ASKING for problems like this.

Had one last year enter the channel after I was already in it coming back from lake and told me she had the right of way because I was a power boat.  I told her she was to when under motor power and she needed to get on her side.  Needless to say I have had more productive conversations with walls.

My son was fishing I-Bay last week when a blowboat cut too close and tangled up our planer boards and lines, .... two bright orange Church boards with flags, spaced real tight our boat. Luckily the guy stopped when J yelled at him and got our stuff back off his rudder.

I see them in the bay all the time and 90% are rude. Most of those jerks won't even wave back when you stop trolling to let them have the right of way.
