I'm relatively new to the salmon trolling scene. Have some shallow water experience but not much in deeper water. Would like to try and get them when they are out deeper.

I recently bought a pair of Cannon Easi troll down riggers with telescopic booms that go to 53". At the moment only have a 8 & 10# cannon balls...from reading some of the great info at this site...they are not heavy enough. So my question is how much weight can I put on these riggers and how far out should I extend the booms? To date I've never been deeper than 60 feet.

I have non-telescoping Easy Trolls and the booklet says 8 lb max. I have successfully used 10# and 13# pancake wieghts. I broke 1 boom on a snag however, I don't think the wieght contributed.
