That one's a goldfish for sure.   There's a bunch in Cayuga.  I get them all the time carp fishing in the spring, along with the rudd.  There's some goldfish in there that have lost their golden color too.  They breed and eventually it "washes" out.

Edit: all the time may be a stretch but a couple to half-dozen every year

Comet goldfish same as the ones you win at the carnival the big ones are popular in the koi pond world they can live a very long time in captivity. Usually the majority are born a more subdued color similar to carp but they are culled out in the pet trade in the wild it's the other way around as bright orange is a predator magnet they are invasive here but I do not know of any impact studies

Potentially you could have kept and sold that one to an ornamental pond owner they are not cheap to buy big

Especially in Asia....some (Koi meaning Carp) have sold for over $100,000 each the ones that are white with orange irregular spotting are highly sought after. I've seen them in Seneca, Cayuga and Canandaigua while perch fishing over the years. Another case of idiots releasing invasive species (in this case from their goldfish bowls)....

I've seen them launching from Seneca park. This one hit like a truck while pan fishing. Must be breeding time since they where every where jumping like carp. Even the carp where jumping out of the water. At least a 10lber jumped at the end of the dock... Hope my exhausted elbow comes in this week.

FYI to anyone who catches a goldfish, kill it! They reproduce very rapidly and can outcompete native species. There's mainly lakes out west and in Florida that are filled with them.
