Hey guys I have those blacks marine releases and are adjustable.how many pounds of release do you guys use and is there a easy way of setting the adjustment.

what is the benefit of a tighter release?  Better hook-ups?  I usually set ours light but do we seem to have quite a few releases with nothing there, even with sharp hooks.

Been using Blacks this season on Cayuga.  Tightened them up since I like to crank the rods down but every trip we wonder at least once or twice if we just spent 15 mins dragging a fish.

Less than a quarter turn and they are too loose and pop off with speed changes or weeds, a slight turn back and we are dragging fish for a free ride up the lake.

You answered your own question and proved my point all in one post

Use a weight scale such as the cheap ones used to check your baggage weight (less than 10 dollars ) and set them at 3 1/2 to 4 lbs or so to start out with and then change it (if needed) accordingly when using heavier stuff like flashers and spinneys.

Change to Chamberlain's, Superior release , can Crank rods to water and also set release so a perch can release it if you want it that light. For Kings I crank them almost all the way, lakers about half.

Gotta say, based on tonight's fishing, Paul was dead on. Setting the releases tighter. 4 for 4 with solid hookups. No releases with nothing home. Thanks.

Put in your 5, or 6 twists in the line.  Then pull it and put 4 more or so loose twist in the line.   That makes the tag from the release longer and shows the shaker landlocks you get in the fingerlakes.

X3 on the Chamberlain used to use blacks and switched.  Best change I've made.
