How many of you guys run a rod length of heavy Mono between your wire an your dipsy diver?  I read somewhere here on LOU where someone mentioned they do it that way and it allows you to break the rod down for storage without kinking the wire and also provides some shock absorption on the hard strikes.

Thanks,

I started doing that recently for the mentioned reasons above.  I got the idea from a charter captain. I was thinking a 40-50# mono too help keep the fleas away from the dipsy also. Tight lines!.

I've use both 40# mono and 50# power pro, currently using power pro as it's much softer than the mono, 10' or so and change it every few weeks, my 2 year old wire still looks brand new and I can break my rods down without worry.

I understand the idea behind it, but for me it's just one more knot or terminal tackle that can break down. I look at like a machine in a machine shop, the more moving parts the more that can break.
