Impeller repair

I am replacing the water impellor in my bravo lower unit. My question is do I put the boat in forward gear before I drop it?

There is  no impeller in a bravo drive, if it is per say a bravo the impeller and sea water pump are mounted on the engine. If it's an Alpha I or Gen II then yes it should be in forward gear to pull.
