Seeking Input - Port Hope & Cobourg - End of September

Going to Port Hope the end of September to try fishing the Ganaraska River, and bring my boat to try my luck on Lake Ontario.

 

Are the fish still active on the Lake the end of September ?

I went fishing yesterday and the day before around cobourg , coutgh 4 small raimbow trout and one small salmon. The season is pretty mutch done. I was in the 190' off water , riger at 90'.

Thanks for the response Pace, it allows me to make the right decision in coming to Port Hope.  Not really keen on fishin' Ganaraska river from shore, but it will please my brother in-law that we join him in what he enjoys.  So I will leave my boat in Montreal, be a shore fishermen for a week-end.

Hi Frank, I had been considering trolling, based on input it is now longer in my plans to bring my boat.  Added to that plans might be completed cancelled to fish the Ganaraska River.

What about lake Champlain it closer to Montreal and deep for trolling what is your input on that lake? Just looking for a location to end the season with a descent catch

Cautgh a 5-7 and 9 pounds rambow last week around Scotch Bonnet in the 190 ' of water ,

rigger at 85- 90' (49°C to 51°C). And some nice one around cobourg to. Just you to know. And some small 4-6 pounds salmon. Big one are gone.

Frank, I fish lake champlain on a regular basis, the salmon (landlock salmon) bite is slow and the lake trout also.

The thermocline is down around 65-70 feet, reports of fishing 70-90 deep are somewhat successful.

Fishing will pick up again beginning October right into December.

Pace I really appreciate the input, rainbow trout of that size are fun to catch on light equipment.

There are over a 1000 people fishing in the Ganaraska. Unbelievable the amount of fish that are killed only for the roe, the rest of the fish is wasted and left to rot . The MNR should close the river completely as most of the people fishing have no license . The $$ fines are too low and their fishing equipment should be confiscated . It was disgusting.

The Ganaraska river should be protected. But gouvernement don't care. It's a shame for Port Hope.

I have decided not to go and fish the Ganaraska.
