Down rigger parts.

I have 2 manual scotty down riggers. The other day while letting the cable down 1 of the line counters detonated. The inner part of the riggers seems to be fine but the line counter won't work. I looked up on line and they sell the whole mechanism Wich I don't think I need. For the electric down riggers they sell just the line counter it's self Wich is what I need. Is there a difference. The pictures look the same but pictures and reality are often times different. Thanks for any. Help.
