I caught this today out of Ontario and I am not positive on the ID.  I believe drum/sheepshead but the thick gold colored scales are making me unsure.  Help me out guys.

Yep big sheepshead.  Don't be fooled by the size, they get huge in Lake O.  I caught a 12# in my kayak trolling for walleyes last year.  I thought it was a laker in only 30 fow, couldn't believe the size of it and it bent the hook of my plug.

Great recipe for sheepshead:

Soak a cedar plank for about 20 minutes, cook fish on plank 10 minutes each side.  Remove from grill and let cool.  Throw fish away and eat the cedar plank!!

I saw a pic of a 26-29 lb drum (sheepshead) caught on Irondequoit bay. I believe it was on Dec site from last year. Was a state record.

Yes, it WAS a state record. No more.

Wow you guys eat these? We catch some big one out of Oneida Lake, only problem is the usually have some nasty looking growths on them that always made me toss them back. This one was on the clean side but still not pretty. A fun battle for sure though.
