Why

If I am logged in and I click on view new content it only shows threads I hav posted in and goes back over a year.

 

If I am not logged in it shows me recent posts from the last day or so ( if I was involved or not ) . Which i would think is the way it should be.

You might want to see what filters you have check marked in the left column. If you have the one checked under "Other", that is all you will see.
