I have fished for a long time but new to fishing the lower river and lake Ontario this time of the year. With having some ice in the river and the lake how much should I be working about my transducer ? Also I just recently purchased a elite 7 ti with the totalscan transducer. Where would be the best place to put it. With having sidescan a lot of people are saying to put it in the middle right behind the motor. The totalscan transducer is my big concern with the ice since it is not cheap. Thanks for any help

If it helps I have a 1996 Spectrum sport

If you can't easily afford to replace the transducer DO NOT run around in the lower river when theres ice chunks. That condition has been the death of many transducers. Have a 2nd simpler transducer, or a 2nd unit to use for depth. Store your valuable transducer in your splash well and zip tie up any loose cable. If you are using your unit for the gps function make sure to unplug the idle transducer so its not running out of the water.
