If you're mainly fishing the Finger lakes region for them 10 lb test braid with 6-8 lb flurocarbon leader works well for general use

Totally depends if you are jigging or trolling.  What technique are you referring to?

Beefy is better on SLR, IMHO.... Structure and invasives really put your terminal gear to the test. I use 25# braid to 20# seaguar floro. Has worked well for me. Tight lines!

* I do use a lighter setup when jigging.

I prefer mono for trolling any kinda stickbaits.  If i am jigging I like10 lb fireline with a size 14 barrel swivel and a 24-30 inch 12-15 lb floro leader.    I also like braid when pulling spinners on bottom

I agree with Landshark. I use 12lb. Mono for Browns and walleyes for sticks and spoons. 12 lb. Nanofill for jigging with barrel swivel and fluorocarbon leader and the same for bottom bouncers with spinner.
Trolling walleyes on the SLR however is a whole different game with different set up and gear.

I troll 30lb braid. Could easily use 15-20lb on Slr and lake o but the diameter of 30lb is almost perfect for precision trolling data to track dive curves of my baits.

I Don't jig or cast so no opinion there.

for trolling erie i use 12lb Berkley Trilene 100% fluorocarbon mainline right to a swivel.  My dipsy leaders are 14lb flouro.
