Been spending a fair amount of time on the water and at work,

so I figured I owed the wife and son....so we took a short break

and headed up to Moon River, Ontario (www.moonbasinmarina.com).

Nice cabins, great weather, river was warm to swim, etc. Spent the

quality time with my son fishing for bass, sunnies, perch etc....did manage

a few minutes of pike time, and we landed a 22" pike.

Definitely worth the break!!

Was there the first week of July doing some musky fishing. Fishing was slow, but scenery was spectacular. This was the first time I was ever up in that area. I stayed on Pennsylvania Island at the what else.. Pennsylvania Club. Plenty of hammer handle pike and lots of nice small mouths helped alleviate the slow musky fishing.

If you get the chance, I suggest heading over to Sans Souci and getting a blueberry ice cream. That always helps when fishing is slow. I was invited back in September and may give the muskies one more crack. Will keep you posted.

Just came back across the Moon River post....did you go back in September and how was it?

Also, San Souci.....that's out in Iron City Bay?

John,

Never made it back. With the way the economy was, I only could take one fall trip. I know poor me. I went to the Bay of Quinte for some trophy walleye fishing instead. There is the possibility I may go back in May to do some spring fishing. But, I'll have to wait and see.

This was my first time ever there, so I'm not to familiar with the location of Iron City Bay. Here was where we were. The circle at the upper left marks the club's location at the southern tip of Pennsylvania Island. Moon River Marina is located at the bottom right, it is about a seven mile boat ride from Pennsylvania Island.

I know where that is. Quite far from where we stayed.

But cool to see it on the maps.

We're going to do another 4 day thing (wife and son)

in July!

Saw your posts while looking for fishing info for Canada. I'm looking to drive up from Watertown, NY 22-25 May for some smallmouth fishing, what lake would you recommend?

Russ:

To be honest, when I've headed up north, anywhere, its generally been to fish

for northern pike. We have plenty of walleye and bass here on Lake Erie, so

we've always gone to catch something different.

We're going to be up in late May at French River, which is northern georgian

bay. Our smallmouth catch there is incidental.

Its been a long time since I've been at Moon River in May....

Sorry I can't give you much more than that...
