Unless it changed this year,only if you are aiding in fishing. Netting,driving or handling poles,then you need a licence On page #6,54 in new fishing guide, give you the answer as I stated before.

i was checked by DEC couple years ago.  I was fishing my buddy was not.  I was casting he was drinking beer.  Per DEC he did not need a license for that.

I didn't know you needed a license to drink beer?? LOL? But I thought you can't drink alcohol either, on account it's a registered motor vehicle, whether car or boat?? That's the first question they ask me when I get checked by fish commission or coast guard, they see I'm goofy enough I don't need beer yet. I prefer a smooth Kentucky Bourbon on the rocks:rofl:

It was my boat and he was not driving.   Just went along for the ride is all.  I was not drinking and was fishing.    This was on Seneca Lake.

You didn't need to comment back, to me I see nothing!! Our local lake just happens to be a state park, so they are real tough of that subject.

All good. He asked about regulations so I wanted to clarify.  I have been stopped a lot for guys drinking on the boat. As long as I was good never had any isssues.
