Ordered a new Simrad autopilot for the boat ! It time to throw the piece of crap Raymarine in the garbage!! Please don't make any offers for this used unit.... I don't want to screw anyone's fishing up trying to use this hunk of $h!t.... very bad product.

I'll be interested in how you make out with the install and operation of your new Simrad. I have the Ray Sportpilot. It does have it's limits holding course depending on the winds as you know. Ray replaced my Sportpilot 5 years ago without charge. It started to get sloppy because of the wear in the gears. I sent the helm unit back for repairs and a new one showed up 5 days later. It's still holding on but the wear issue is starting to show up on this one also.

 

I know your frustration when the AP bombs out .  Had a AP for 26 years and I'd be lost without one.

This the second one I have had, first one went with the Blue Bubble when I sold her.... that's why I hate the Raymarine, spoiled by Simrad !!!!

Dad had Simrad ap24 installed last year. Great addition. Found that while trolling with bags, u have to run bags on each side. With only one bag deployed, the pull is too much for the ap to try and compensate to keep course true.
