Fished out of Oswego today, not much going on, a few boats ,a few marked fish out to 250 fow. Sure enough them little critters are starting there crap.lol

Quick question. What is the problem with the water fleas? I have yet to encounter them and want to know what to expect...thanks

They stick to your line making it darn near impossible to reel a fish in.   When they get bad we check wire line every 30-40 min if there has been no hits on that rod.  Less fleas with 30ltest.

O ok. I was advised to pick up some 50 lb big game mono to put on incase of fleas so that's my plan. Just wondered

They cling to your line,clog things up,they can build up so much they add weight to your line. Many change up to a bigger line so they can't attach.Cortland makes a Flea Flicker line that's kind of oval shape and Boold Run has there own too,many just go with like 50lb. Big game. Lead Core,copper,do ok,wire gets some,but braid and your smaller lines and even your downrigger cable parts can get messy.

Stoneam2006, I run 30 pound big game mono on the fingers and the fleas are not a problem. I just replace about 250 feet of mono on my rigger rods with the 30# and then switch over to all wire Dipsey's and you should be ok. Hope that helps.

Had a flea problem yesterday out of I-Bay. They were clinging to any line running vertically. Rigger cable, rigger lines and the braided dipseys. Will put the braided dipsey rods away. PITA to remove fleas from braid. Wire is no problem. On rigger rods we remove 150 ft of mono and tie Blood Run Sea Flee 30 lb for the summer.  20 lb flouro leader to that if you want.

30# Fireline works great. Fleas hate it for some reason. I ran inside divers on wire and outside on fireline all last year. Fireline got less fleas but wire cleaned up easier.

Fished Oswego yesterday. You are right, the fleas were there!

They were just starting during our trip on the 9th of June, our boards lines were getting a few and our leadcores were really bad, so I can imagine their getting into full swing with the surface temp climbing. When we started fishing the 9th of June the surface temp was 56* by Thursday it was pushing 68* we needed to move out to 50ft of water to  find fish and the 30ft temp was 57*

Fished Oswego today. One  pole with 15 and  one with 30 lb test , The 15 got all fleed up , the 30 stayed clean. 3 salmon and a laker down 100ft. Then it rained !
