Split Ring on spoon opinions

Being new to Salmon Fishing on Ontario, I am curious regarding the value of a split ring on the spoon for connecting to the leader. Some of the spoons I purchased have rings and some do not. I do use Duoloc snaps which have a round bend that allows for a fairly free movement of the spoon. Your comments, pro and con.

if the spoon comes with a split ring i use it. if it comes without one i run it that way.

Totally agree with Traveling Man.

But we use a snap swivel not just a snap to prevent line twist. Also if you tie dircctly to the spoon with no split ring you always run the chance of losing the fish because of the sharp edged hole in the spoon in my opinion.
