Down riggers and rod holder?

Hey all! Just looking to see if anyone has any opinions on what types of DR or Rod holders they prefer. I'm just starting out and looking to go manual on the riggers for now. Also if any one has either for sale I would be interested! Thanks!

Scotty manual riggers are the bee's knees trust me I fish very often and we fish super hard. I use 13lb weighs although they are rated for up to 20 and we drag bottom and put allot of strain on them. Also the 2ft per turn horizontal crank takes allot of strain off the arms while cranking up heavy weights from the depths. I wouldn't go to anything else if I had to at this point

Penn manuals on my boat .they get the job done . Would like to switch to electric some day but costs seem high on those . Got my Penn's off eBay I paid $70 a piece if I remember right

All hand cranks are good. I agree with Sutton on the scotty's for the ease, but by the end of the day they all give you a work out. I run cannon lake trollers with 10 lbers. Remember the lighter the ball the more blow back to account for. But that's what works on my smaller boat.

I run cannon unitroll 5 manuals with 10 lb balls it's a work out I'm looking to buy electrics eventually but think I'm going to invest in a fish hawk first

Manuals are plenty good for the weekend warrior (me included) and really simplify things. My only recommendation is getting the correct book size and mounting location for your boat. Among many I've used cannon, big Jon, and Penn are all fine...and I'm sure there are more. Been trolling for 35 years and have never had electrics on any of my boats. Manual is fine!!! Yes I have Popeye arms, lol
