I am new to using the stranded wire line on dipsies and am wondering do you connect the wireline straight to the dipsy or do you use a leader? If you use a leader do you use a swivel to connect the wire to the leader or do you tie a knot between the wire and the leader?

Thanks

FABCOACH,

Wire line is Satinless steal 7 strand 30lb. wire. It is a lot thinner than downrigger cable. It is used on a rod and reel. No downriggers are necessary if you use a dispy diver. Wire with a dispy will achieve depths of 100+' with the correct amount of line out. Wire dipsy setups can be the best producers on the boat (especially in August).

No it's fishing line but it's made of wire. Malin is a pretty popular brand in 30 pound, spool up a large lineounter as full as it would go. 1000 ft spools are what most guys buy. The line allows great stregth, depth, and it resists water fleas from building up on the line.

Remove the guide on the end of the rod and install a twilli tip for the wire to pass through. As someone else said, attach a swivel to the end of the wire and use wire crimps ( 2) stacked on top of one another. Feed the wire through the crimps and into the swivel then back through the crimps again. I always take the tag end of the wire and run it through the crimps again and then crimp the sleeves. Trim off the excess wire at the swivel and your good to go. This set up has produced many big fish especially this time of year. You attach your dipsey diver to the swivel, then attach a snubber to the dipsey and leader material to the snubber. Depending on what baits you run, spoons, or flasher and flies determines the lenght of the leader to your bait. Hope this helps.

They are usually right next to the dipsys on the rack in the store. Its a rubber shock absorber. Connect the wire to the dipsy. On the other end of the dipsy connect the snubber, 8 ft of 40lb test leader, then the flasher fly or spoon.
