Some help with spin doctor and flies

hey everyone,

I have been watching the site but only lurking.Some great info and post.

I am new to the flies and was wondering how I should set up my spin doctor and flies. Ive been running them 15ft off the ball down 40-60ft

at 2.7mph.

how far do you put the flie off the S.D?

havent had much luck with them yet but the spoon bite hasnt been bad.

It sounds like you are running your setups to high in the water column. I run my flashers in water ranging from 42 degrees up to the upper 60's. At this time of the year, most of the fish are down past the depth you are fishing. If you do not have a speed and temp unit, I would suggest buying one. I run my fly leaders anywhere from 21" up to 32". I have some tied up short and some longer. Some days they will come in and smash a fly close. Some days they want the fly a little longer. As for the distance off the ball, 15' will work fine. Some days they want it closer and some days it is longer leads that work. Vary the distances in your spread and let the fish tell you what they want.

Put your spinies with your spoons if your getting kings. If you don't have down temp but your marking fish put your lures in that depth. That should get you started. Boy that sounds easy,sure... Good luck.
