I just clip them on to the rigger swivel and clip the ball or prob to them and adjust the tension screw so a moderate pull will spring the "bail" up. This tension is a bit dependant on how deep and what you are pulling behind it. Easy set up and just takes a bit of learning curve.

If you're using the one with the wire: hook cable to one end, ball on the other.

or

You can remove the wire and feed your uncoated cable through the holes. Then attach your ball. Put a crimp between the legs to "nail" it in position. (I like about 1" above the clip for the ball.)

or

If your'e using it on a coated line, drill out the holes a little larger then use a piece of tubing as insulation to keep it from wearing the coating off the cable. Again (but carefully) us an eletrical terminal connector to "nail" it in place. (There's a picture someplace way back there)

or

If you're using it as a stacker, thread your cable through it and use a toothpick or a small trottline clip to hold it in place.

The wire that holds your line should release upward. You can make a loop then twist your line about 4 times and put the loop in the clip or you can half-hitch a rubber band to you line and put the free loop in the release clip. Be careful if you use light line with the twisted loop. Some light mono lines "stretch & warp" after about 1 1/2 hrs or so.
