Kicker Controls Sticking

I installed a mew yamaha 9.9 May 2014. Just recently I noticed two things... #1 when I go to put it in gear it doesn't want to go in gear, I have to put it in reverse then forward and #2 when pushing it forward I have to push hard to get it to move.

You're thoughts are welcomed and appreciated !!

My Honda kicker controls we're doing the same thing just before the throttle cable broke. Brand new motor but I didn't replace the cables. The cable was fraying and making it stick, it would help to put in reverse first, it must have been pushing the fraying down because it would go into forward easier then.

Take a look on the engine where the controls connect and see if everything looks well connected there.

I had the same thing with my honda kicker. Mine has a vacuum controlled assembly that pushes on throttle. I cleaned a the assembly and sprayed some silicon lubricant on the rod going in the the vacuum assembly. Problem solved if you think this could be your issue let me know I can send pics.

Sounds like #1 is an adjustment issue at motor,#2 if you have the 703 controller there is a friction control knob on key side. Also make sure control cables are long enough, I had same problem with that setup!
