Smelled burning rubber on my friends boat when we throttled up. We cut it back and it seemed fine. Fished the day without a problem. It is a OMC outdrive and I hope its not the coupler again. Any input would be appreciated.

Ck all the bellow's for heat when it happen's. As in the one that comes off the the elbow and below going thru the transom for abnormal heat. Did you aline the engine when you put the coupler in and put a pump impeller in it when you had the drive off.?

The boat had the stringers and impeller done by reputable mechanics. We will check all the above mentioned. It is possible something got sucked to the intake upon take off[condoms, balloons, weeds, ect].:?

How about wire insulation melting somewhere? The exhaust manifold is watercooled but maybe the starter and its wiring melted?
