Just picked up 2000' of stainless wire braid and need to know how to attach it to the spool on the reel and some of the basics of wire dipseys.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For my wire rods, I first put 100' of braid backing and attached the wire with an albright knot (look for the knot link). This seems to hold well. THere are several other links dealing with spooling and such.

I've always tied the wire directly to the spool using a modified clinch knot. I've never used backing and have never had the need to.

I always tie direct to the spool also, but I also use a small piece of electrical tape on the spool. This prevents the wire from slipping on the spoll.

We put a piece of electrical tape on the spool and tie it without any backing. IIRC we also used a single crimpable sleeve above the knot to anchor the tail of the knot to the line.

Wind it on TIGHT and even.

Wire rocks!!!!

Thanks for all the help last year guys. wire has almost doubled our catch rate.

Good point Rich D. I also put a piece of electrical tape on the spool first, then tie the knot. And mikejonestkd is right...put it on TIGHT!!!
