I was hoping somebody could give me some idea of what it would cost/ involve to put the entry level Simrad autopilot (AP 15 ?) in a 90s Starcraft Islander w/ the Merc I/O.

The unit I installed is a AP14R which stands for ROTARY steering cable system. Most newer teleflex or similar steering systems are rotary or hydraulic you have to check your own application. The unit was around 1200.00 and I had to buy a replacement steering cable which was another 140.00. You will have to check your application but the above, added together with about 4 hours install time with the help of a friend and your in business.

The unit is great, works very well on my 21 Lund with an outboard. Was out today in 3s and it held course great.

Definatly worth the investment. :D

JAX, who did you buy the unit from? Anybody know the steering configuration for the merc I/O in the Starcraft Islander?

PM lyteline he had one rotary one installed recently mine is hydraulic. The only thing I can add is that the location of the compass is critical for the calibration. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I had a sport pilot plus on my previous boat and that doesn't compare to the Simrad.
