When I’m trolling for Browns in the short water with braided line I use a 1oz. Weight between the braid and floro leader, then my spoon.

For stick baits on braid I don’t use any weight in the short water. But u do use floro leaders.

My leaders are 1 rod length.

For Browns and walleye I use 12lbs

For coho and steelhead I use 20lbs.

For kings I’ll use 30lbs.

Ps. 1oz of lead will be about 7 feet down at 2.0 mph. With a light spoon. At 3.0 mph it’s only about 4 to 5 feet down.

if your fishing real shallow a split shot or two a couple of feet up the line or just before the leader will keep a spoon under the surface especially at slower speeds  depending on the spoon and the speed you might be a couple feet down or you may only be 6 inches under the surface but that is not neccessarily a bad thing.
