The fishing report below is made available from the Central New York Fishing Hotline for May 11 through 18, 2018 at https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9218.html

Please visit that site for more information or to follow links.

The New York State Freshwater Fishing Regulations Guide runs from April 1st to March 30th. The 2018-19 Official guide has a picture of an angler holding a giant smallmouth bass on the cover. The Fishing Guide can be picked up where fishing licenses are sold, or viewed at the link below.

Oswego and Wayne Counties have weekly fishing hotlines on their web sites as well and would be another good option for fishing reports; Oswego County (visitoswegocounty.com); and Wayne County (waynecountytourism.com). Though Onondaga County doesn't have a weekly fishing report, their web site is another good source of fishing information in the region (fishonondagacounty.com).

Region 7:

Trout season kicked off on April 1st and for more information on trout fishing please view Fishing for Stream Trout and for places to go check out our Public Fishing Rights Brochures.

A few sections of area streams, ponds and lakes will have been stocked with trout by Friday, May 11th. These Cayuga County streams and lakes are: Owasco Outlet (May 4), North Brook (April 11) and Fall Creek (May 3 and April 4).

Lake Ontario

Brown trout fishing has been good on the big lake and they are being taken by trolling with stick baits or small spoons in shallow water. Fishing off colored water, if you can find it, has been good. Some spring Kings are also being taken and lake trout are being found in 120 feet of water.
