I was told  that if you put salt on your herring strips that it will make the skin tougher and make the piece last longer in the water. Any truth to this or is it Bs?

In the old days before refrigeration that was the way fish were preserved herring included:)

It’s not like you sprinkle it on like your pizza. Brining involves ice and salt and a little water.

Use Kosher salt. dump the salt in a ziplock bag and then put meat inside. Make sure it’s coated extremely well. It will toughen the strips up.

thanks for the replies guys!!   . I will salt my meat this summer!! ;)  I never know what to believe so I ask the pro's here.
