Have any of you been able to remove the tip on a Shimano Talora rod with heat? Any helpful hints...

Did anyone just cut off the tip?

I am attaching a Torpedo Swivel Tip.

Did this work?

Worked great...

Ended up going twili tip after having a torpedo tip break (probably my fault). I used a scoring all the way around with a box cutter and then heat technique. Pulled firmly and the tip came off.

Jann’s Netcraft has Pacbay roller swivel rod tip in their catalog for less than $20.00

Wow, this is a popular topic! Be careful applying heat to these rods. You might get the tip off, but you're likely to damage the carbon fibers as well. This could cause a dramatic failure in the future. If the tip sags at all after you've heated it up, then you know you need to cut it off below the damaged section. Just sayin'

Gators comment also can apply to those small ice fishing rods:lol:

With a standard non roller or twilli tip usually the 7 strand wire will make cuts in the metal of the standard tip from the see-saw action of the wire sort of like a hack saw:smile:
