Tks HB2 for response   Not sure pic would help , crack goes through latter side of reel were handle attaches .

I broke a friend of mine spool a long time ago . It was Black lexan plastic . Cracked the same way it sounds like . 

 

It was taken to Kodak and some sort of glue was used and two screws were drilled  and threaded through the crack . It worked for a long time

Ive melted the cracks with a solder iron, epoxied the repair.I tried to use 2 broken ones to make one.

never lasted.........

Thks Fishstix that is probably the bottom line [ ie try and replace it ] !
