I understand that when a fish grabs the cheater it slides down the main line to the lure, but what happens when a fish grabs the lure on the main line? Do you have to stop and remove the cheater before reeling the fish all the way in or do you just power through it when it reaches the rod tip?

We usually remove it. Only takes a second for a second guy. You can also reel thru it and net the fish. Just have to be careful cheater lure doesn’t get into prop etc.
